In November I attended the Amherst Writers and Artists Facilitators’ retreat and got the well-anticipated creative shot in the arm. Some 25 women all versed in the AWA method of writing; sharing their expertise in writing for various populations and purposes. My contribution was a workshop called ‘Clearing The Creative River’, based on the wonderful book Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D. The workshop included fairy tales and a special writing exercise on meeting your own internal writing mentor. This exercise was based on Milton Erickson’s hypnosis techniques; the participants’ written responses were rich and deep.
A special pleasure was talking with author Margaret Wrinkle and being introduced to her gorgeous novel, Wash. This read is a wonderful trip into post-civil war America and the mystery of a man named Wash.
