What I Care About
I have a special interest in holding a safe space with and for my fellow writers. Rather than accepting the judgmental, critical and crushing feedback method found in many writing groups I am interested in following the following principles The AWA Method in writing alone and with others:
1. Everyone has a strong, unique voice.
2. Everyone is born with creative genius.
3. Writing as an art form belongs to all people, regardless of economic class or educational level.
4. The teaching of craft can be done without damage to a writers original voice or artistic self-esteem.
5. A writer is someone who writes.
“Whether your purpose for writing is artistic expression, communication with friends and family, the healing of the inner life, or achieving public recognition for your art – the foundation is the same: the claiming of yourself as an artist/writer and the strengthening of your writing voice through practice, study, and helpful response from other writers.”

The Personal Me
I am passionate about beauty and excellence in all things from glorious writing to lemon drop martinis. I prefer ‘running my own shop’ but I can often be a pretty good team member. The values of community, compassion, gratitude and learning keep me grounded and I tend to hang out with like-minded folks.
I’ve been known as Sandra, Miss Block, Dr. Block, Dr. Sandra, Mom-Mom, old iron heels and yellow dog (don’t ask).
I was born and raised in Maryland; the Chesapeake Bay still runs in my veins and steamed crabs are still the food of the gods. I now live in Southern California.
